Covid-19 Instructions on how to break the chain of transmission & Frequent questions 24.03.2020

Protection guidelines explained

We must be particularly careful. Infection with the Covid-19 virus is asymptomatic for a period of up to two weeks. This means that someone may transmit it to others without having any symptoms himself or herself, as it may also mean that we may transmit it to others without having the slightest indication that we carry the virus. The Covid-19 virus is transferred from human to human and from object to human through the nasal and oral route (not through the digestive route), or through the eyes. Click here for detailed protection guidelines, and explained, in accordance to the Greek National Organisation of Public Health [EODY, 13/03/2020)].

Instructions in the event that a loved one displays symptoms

If a loved one displays symptoms, it is important to remain calm. It is very likely that the symptoms that become manifest are actually indications of a common cold, or the flu, or they may also be symptoms of mild Covid-19 infection. A simple advice is to tap into your humor, block all negative thoughts and try to think positively about the future. Try to protect yourself and your mood despite the dramatic news, as much as you can, and continue to freely enjoy all the small, everyday beautiful things with your loved us, albeit without ignoring the following instructions for protection issued by the National Public Health Organization of Greece (E.O.D.Y).

A few pieces of advice for psychological well-being

We are going through unprecedented times and we have been called upon to change our daily routine in order to protect ourselves from the Covid-19 virus, both individually and as society as a whole. Regardless of whether it may sound extreme, unnecessary or clichéd, it is nonetheless important to emphasize the fact that routine is the most stable thing we all have in our lives.

At the same time, we see the personal and collective mourning that grips other countries, the personal stories of loss of people fallen ill with the Covid-19 virus and the accounts of relatives who have lost their loved ones in such a terrible and sudden way. To make matters worse, we are witnessing a pandemic that also brings wide-scale financial insecurity. Continue reading with a few pieces of advice for psychological well-being.

Should I take antibiotics either as a “precaution” or if I have any symptoms?

Antibiotics can only cure bacteria, not viruses. As a consequence, antibiotics are not suitable for the Covid-19 virus. Moreover, we must never take antibiotics as a precaution; we must only take them after examination and prescription by a physician for treatment of bacterial infection. The irrational and pointless use of antibiotics plays a decisive role in improving the strength of bacteria. At the same time, the “precautionary” – i.e. without reason – use of antibiotics can be harmful for our organism in many ways.

Also, never use any medicine if you have not first discussed with a physician, taking into consideration side effects, drugs interaction, comorbid conditions, etc. and never advise others to take a medicine.
